farmhouse rental nr Carcassonne and Toulouse

Access to Ferme du Ciel is by way of small country lanes, near a village on the main road from Toulouse to Carcassonne. It has its own road leading to the house, and there is ample room for parking.

Entrance is from the back of the house, with entry into a hallway. To the right is a large kitchen (with its own outside door), fully equipped with 5 burner cooker with large oven, in a central working aisle, with fitted cupboards and units along the side walls with dishwasher, double sink, freezer and refrigerator, and microwave. The back of the kitchen leads into the dining room with table to sit 8, and a fireplace.

To one side a small corridor leads to a bathroom with shower, washbasin, and bidet, there also is access to the garage /cave where there is an addition refrigerator and parking area. There is a washing machine as well as a dryer.

Through the door and across the central hallway from the dining room, is the large living room, stretching the width of the house, with lovely tiled floors, 2 couches, large fireplace, and TV and entertainment center with cassette and CD player, as well as DVD player.

At the back of the corridor, near the entrance, a staircase goes up to the 1st floor, where a couple of corridors run the length and breadth of the house. There is a bright large bathroom with bathtub, with shower attachment, washbasin, bidet, and washing machine. There is a bedroom with double bed, and hard single bed; a bed room with 2 single beds; a "yellow" bedroom with double bed, and antique fireplace. Off the main corridor is the master bedroom with double bed and TV, adjoining this is an office / single bedroom with a connecting room to the main stairs.

The stairs go up to the 2nd floor - where there is a large attic room that takes up the width and breadth of the house; and is excellent for children or youngsters to use. There are 3 single beds, a cot, and a mattress on the floor (for the more bohemian!). There are velux windows as well as ventilation from side windows.

There are 2 WCs in the house

There is a door leading from the ground floor corridor onto the open terrace in "front" of the house, here there is plenty of room for dining out (a barbecue is provided), or sun bathing. Steps lead down to a garden area with a mature tree giving ample shade, to a large table for dining that is placed nearby.

To the side of the house, and about 20 metres away is the large swimming pool (12m x 7m), with independent shower, with a wide terrace surround, creating plenty of room for sun bathing and relaxing.

From the house, the garden, and the swimming pool are magnificent views of the surrounding countryside, and the Pyrenees in the distance, as well a spectacular view of the sky both in the day and at night.

The house has central heating - making it possible to rent the house year round. There is internet.

The house became home to John Burton Race, a 2 star Michelin chef, and his family in the making of the TV program "French Leave" that was shown on Channel 4 in the UK.

40 minutes drive is Carcassonne with its magnificent Cité - with splendid medieval walls, and a castle that has been featured in numerous films. Its well worth spending a day here visiting both the castle and the lower town - and if you are in the area during July don't miss the spectacular fireworks display on July 14.

35 minutes drive to the west is Toulouse, with a fascinating array of things to see and do - from the Capitole - the assembly hall of the city magistrates, to the Basilica of St Sernin (an important stop on the way to Santiago de Compostela), and the various museums for modern art (Les Abbatoirs) and photography, as well as where the Airbus is constructed at Manatour Taxiway ( and the Cité de l'Espace (space travel).

30 minutes to the north is Revel, with a lovely covered market, known for its furniture makers - a perfect thing is to continue driving up to Albi - with its cathedral, the Toulouse Lautrec museum, and lovely scenery. To the south a visit to Montsegur is a must - here was the last stand of the Cathars against the Crusades - there are now only ruins but there is a wonderful view of the surrounding area.

For those wanting to visit the Mediterranean beaches = Gruissan Plage (known in the movies by being the background for Betty Blue) is 1 h 15 mins drive - here there are seemingly endless beaches, mostly with a very slight gradient perfect for children and adults alike.

International airports are within easy driving distance - Montpellier (120 mins), Carcassonne (40 mins), Toulouse (35 mins), Perpignan (90 mins) and Barcelona (3.75 hours). There are railway stations at Castelnaudary (15 mins)with TGV connections at Toulouse and Narbonne to Paris.
