HERAULT VILLAGES TO VISIT IN THE MINERVOIS
This pretty village, situated close to Olonzac - Capital of the Minervois, dates back to Neolithic times. Acting as place where the high Languedoc met the plains of the Aude, the village attests a number of historic sites. Once a Roman oppidum, it also has the remains of the visigothic chapel at Sainte-Madeleine, in the domaine d'Artix; the ruins of chapel Saint Germaine, as well as the chateau that dates back to the 12th century. The Eglise Saint Martin, although dating back to the 19th century, has fine features, and is now next to a good restaurant with attractive terrace - Auberge de Saint Martin - in the building that was the village school
The church - the 19th century Saint Martin - dates back to when the village prospered not only as a wine making village, but also for its nearby Lignite mines at La Serre nearby. Now the village is a pleasant place to wander around and there are some lovely walks in the surrounding countryside
